Burley hopes for new investment
George Burley tries to get his point across at the Ricoh Arena
George Burley tries to get his point across at the Ricoh Arena

George Burley played a totally straight bat to questions about Saints' financial future.

The manager was quizzed by journalists about the state of his club's finances and what next month's transfer window could hold in store for him.

Saints' executive directors have warned that player sales next month are inevitable unless new investment is brought in.

The executives were adamant the Sisu deal was the only one on their table - but that door was slammed shut on them last Friday when the London-based hedge fund completed a deal with Coventry instead.

"These types of thing are out of our hands - Coventry have new investors which I'm sure they're pleased with," said Burley.

"Things can change quickly at Southampton and we just hope the club does get a new investor so we can push forward.

"There are a few games before January and we'll have to see what can be done by then.

"Life's got to move on. We had to move on in the summer and we rebuilt the squad.

"Unfortunately we've been inundated with injuries but we showed we have got a good squad of players."

Well done Saints. My big fear is that if we have no investment and we lose Davis, Bennett and Ifill, will are defence be back to square one. Is GB trying to keep these guys or are they just like Dailly?

It's down to Saints to put in the good performances to attract new investors. I just hope it happens soon, otherwise I fear you may be right Wayne.

Whatever happens, should make for an interesting second half to the season.

Winning performances Kate, not just good performances. A settled team is the key and losing these players in 3 weeks will disrupt again for a number of weeks. Lets get a good right back (Baird)and left back (Taylor) as Powell, Thomas, Ostlund and Claus should be up and running soon and keep them until June.

Well at least GB has came out and started asking the questions to the board. Questions that need answers.

If you want to pose questions and get some answers (that probably won't answer anything) then go along to Saints AGM on Friday.

You only have yourselves to blame if you don't.

Lets all pray that the good Lord blesses us with investment and total new ownership as George and the club have not, as George says, rebuilt the team. What they have done is downgrade the team by bringing in many experienced second tier players whose stamina and fitness is not likely to hold up through the long winter months ahead. It is beyond belief that there is not a good buyer out there that cannot see the 'sleeping giant' potential that the club offers. A great fan base,in a great part of the country with excellent facilities. What is so bad about that picture? Or have investors been getting a door slammed in their faces so far with the exception of the SISU group?

Class War why bother attending when nothing gets sorted, you are right the board will only answer questions which they have too and the ones the Saints fans want answering will get papered over. We will never get the answers we want as long as we have such a s**t board and as for blame I put this on the shoulders of the people who have been taken the money from our club for numerous years not on the fans who may be able to attend one meeting which will make not the slightest difference to any outcome regarding Saints Football Club.

Well, it looks like the fans get their wish according to the stock exchange site - SISU confirmed as a dead deal and Dulieu, Hone and Oldknow resigned. (Shame the Echo staff need this kind of tip-off)

Yes, they resigned. But with the AGM on Friday their days might have been numbered anyway.

Interesting that the statement adds that the Company is under no immediate financial threat!!! No mention of the threats to sell players and iminent administration.....
