Carberry 'gutted' by cup tie
MICHAEL CARBERRY
MICHAEL CARBERRY

Michael Carberry admitted he was "gutted" after the Hampshire Hawks' second-ever Twenty20 Cup tie.

Man-of-the-match Carberry struck a 42-ball 51 as the Hawks made 164-6, but the Essex Eagles set up a tense return match at Chelmsford tomorrow night by levelling the scores with the last ball of the match under the Rose Bowl floodlights.

The Hawks will qualify for their second Twenty20 Cup quarter-final if they beat Essex in front of what is sure to be a partisan Chelmsford crowd.

If they lose tomorrow the Hawks could still reach the last eight as one of the two best third-placed teams - provided holders Kent lose to Sussex at Hove.

But Carberry believes the Hawks should have won last night instead of sharing the two points.

He said: "Ideally, we were looking win both games against Essex and I'm a little bit gutted that we didn't win the game because it was such a good effort to get to 164 after a slow start."
