Davies close to Stoke transfer
 |
| Andrew Davies |
ANDREW Davies is on the verge of a £1.5m move to Stoke.
The 23-year-old only joined Saints in October last year from Middlesbrough, on an initial three month loan that became a £1m permanent deal.
Davies' 23 committed performances at the heart of the defence earned him the Echo Player of the Season award as voted for by the club's fans.
But it now seems likely he will swap St Mary's for the Britannia Stadium and Premier League football.

Never rated him. Not strong enough in the air and too easily bundled off the ball when isolated one to one. He is not Premiership class. Why do you think ´Boro shipped him out?

could anyone else see this coming a mile off?!!! we sign three or four players to lull the fans into thinking that everything is fine and convince people who were thinking of renewing their season tickets that everything will be ok then right at the last minute flog off our most valuable asset who if anyone had seen davies last year would think 1.5m is an absolute effing joke!!
if we are so desperate for money then why are we loaning players out and not selling them.
before i get a load of abuse for this i want to stress i am not slating the team who i believe are playing well, im just sick and tired f this club taking 2 steps forward and three steps back. i could accept the likes of saga, rasiak and rudi going but davies isnt even one of the top earners!! and he's 23!!!!!

I am not one of the moaners & I have agreed with most of the departures, but this straight takes the p!ss. Absoloute b*llshit! There's no other way to see it really. Get rid of Euell by all means, but don't have many proven defenders. The perfect blend of youth & experience is seriously outbalanced. We're relying too much on some of these kids. I'm worried.

Here we go again. We sign Killer to a contract, and just when everyone is thinking we'll have a solid partnership at the center of defense Lowe pulls his usual "sell last seasons player of the season" crap. Yesterday Lowe is talking about promotion to the Premiership, today we are selling our best players. Obviously he learned nothing during his first spell in charge. Does he seriously think Killer will be an ever present this year??? Of course, he can simply blame those in charge before he wormed his way back in.
I am not knocking the team either, I love the way they are playing for their place and are proud to wear the red and white, but doesn't that typify Davies attitude also?

This is a massive blow! Svensson still has to prove his fitness will allow him to play the entire season. His "understudy" Lancashire is only just back from injury as well, which just leaves Thomas as cover, who most people seem to rate as next to useless.
I see the Echo released this story at 2.28pm. Being cynical I would guess it was the best time to release the news, knowing that the supporters at SMS wouldn't know or be able to react to it and voice their concerns during the game.

If he does go it's because he wants to go not that we need or want to sell him. (money talks) for these players. I just hope stoke dont offer him what he wants and he stays here.

Call me a miserable git but this is the same old story - half time - everybody happy we have played well - i predict we tire in the second half and lose or draw and we are back in reality staring relegation in the face again. You cannot change so much in such a short space of time and expect not to be punished.

If Southampton FC is to survive, it has to cut its costs, and one of its highest costs at present is the interest it is paying to the banks.
My understanding is that the club will make a profit of half a million, which is what has to be taken into consideration.
The fact is that with all the players that the club would like to sell, there is not a club that wants to buy them, so you are faced with losing the ones you don't want to sell.
It may have escaped your notice Andy, but over here we are in the middle of, what is called,'the credit crunch', which means that banks are wary about who they lend money to, and keen to get money back from those they have already lent to. Saints fall into that category.
If/when Davis goes, I can quite see that there would already be an experienced, older player being lined up to come in on loan, either until the next window or until the end of the season.
Thank god you are not knocking the team. I would hate to read your post if you were.

Did we not bank on Killers return the year that we where relegated from the prem?
that 500k that we use to pay the bills for 1 month could be the second most costly gamble in saints history.
Come on Lowe, show everyone that you are humble enough to have learned by past errors.

Change is always best but only takes when done in a gradual and responsible manner. We do look short on fittness and what Wenger calls "mental strength". That said we blew them apart for 30 mins so lets not overeact but learn to adapt, this is the time for the team to pull together not apart.
As for Davies going, £1.5 mil?!, either his injury is worse than expected or this must be a typo. £15 mil.

i reckon that this money will be used to possibly bring in Baird on loan or possibly a permanent but so far there's nothing official so fingers crossed because Svensson and Davis at the back looks solid.

Its very worrying indeed that Andrew Davies is being sold but even more worrying is our New Manager being kept in the dark regards transfer policy at the club.
This was the quote on the Offical Web Site when Poortvliet was asked to comment on the rumours surrounding the proposed transfer he said and I quote "I have heard the rumours but I am not sure exactly what is happening there. I have not chance to see him play yet so I don't know too much about him but I think he may have spoken to them (Stoke) but I am not sure"
WTF!!!! are you telling me that the manager of our club knows nothing about who we buy or sell!!!
Rupert Lowe must be behind this move, we need Davies and after todays game we need him even more.
It also was revealed by Poortvliet that Killers knee is cause for concern as he was feeling it before the brum game and was a doubt!!! also he was not happy with the effort from BWP or Dyer so that is why they were left out today!!
League One here we come this club is becoming more of a shambles week by week with Lowe in charge!!

Also Leicester City-third I think-unbeaten no goals against-Nigel good manager or not?

The following players are being touted around other clubs as being "available for transfer" by Saints:
Kelvin Davis
Wayne Thomas
Andrew Davies
Rudi Skacel
Andrew Surman
Jason Euell
Nathan Dyer
Bradley Wright-Phillips
Stern John
If they all leave, that will leave us with 18 professionals! Most of which were last year's reserves or Youth Team.
This is despite Michael Wilde saying two weeks ago that Saints were over the worst. Liar.

I have not the slightest doubt that Rupert Lowe is aware of that fact, and having seen the results at Leeds, Luton, Bournemouth and yes, Portsmouth under Gregory, knows that speculating with other people's money ie the bank's is a sure fire way of going into administration.
Having seen, close hand, what that entails, it is not something that I would risk if I were the chairman of any club.
Incidentally, I was aware of where the 'solids first hit the fan' in the financial markets, but thought the chap in the US may not have been aware of the effect it has had here.
I never said you had to cut your costs and get relegated, I maintain that, in the current financial climate, it is prudent to spend less than you earn, and try to cut your overdraft. If that means relegation, then you will not be the first club in history that has been relegated. I support Pompey, and we went to Div 4 before we made our way back to the top table.
I know precious little about SISU, and depending on who you talk to, and on which side of the fence they are sat, so the story differs.
When you say that Lowe and Cowan wanted to protect 'their' investments, you mean, of course, the money that investors have entrusted them with. It was not Lowe and Cowan's personal money, it was shareholders.
So Coventry have won two games out of two. Have they won promotion yet? Of course not! There is a long way to go, and even if you have written Saints off after two games, I, a Pompey supporter, have not.
Leicester City, with Nigel Pearson at the helm. What league are they in? So you want to be in that league so that you can be unbeaten?
So you are a life long supporter, and been to many matches before I was born! You must be on your last legs then. My first game at The Dell was against QPR in 3rd Div South which, if I remember correctly, Saints won 3-2.
QPR's captain was one Joe Mallett, who later joined Saints.
If you are living in Madiera, what are YOU doing to for the club that you claim to be a life-long supporter of?

Yesterday Lowe is talking about promotion to the Premiership, today we are selling our best players. Obviously he learned nothing during his first spell in charge. Does he seriously think Killer will be an ever present this year??? Of course, he can simply blame those in charge before he wormed his way back in. I am not knocking the team either, I love the way they are playing for their place and are proud to wear the red and white, but doesn\'t that typify Davies attitude also?
Salt Lake City! Is that the world centre for Mormons or Morons? If Southampton FC is to survive, it has to cut its costs, and one of its highest costs at present is the interest it is paying to the banks. My understanding is that the club will make a profit of half a million, which is what has to be taken into consideration. The fact is that with all the players that the club would like to sell, there is not a club that wants to buy them, so you are faced with losing the ones you don\'t want to sell. It may have escaped your notice Andy, but over here we are in the middle of, what is called,\'the credit crunch\', which means that banks are wary about who they lend money to, and keen to get money back from those they have already lent to. Saints fall into that category. If/when Davis goes, I can quite see that there would already be an experienced, older player being lined up to come in on loan, either until the next window or until the end of the season. Thank god you are not knocking the team. I would hate to read your post if you were.
In actual fact true blue it s a place that they will not allow morons from Fareham in-sorry about that-You need to realise that a Football Club,to aspire to higher reaches, needs to speculate to accumulate-something RL knows nothing about.[By the way `the credit crunch,as you put it started in the US not UK) So what you are saying we have to cut our costs and get relegated? Lets look at SFC history over past few years-SISU were the only realistic takeover people that came in for us-What happened?Lowe and Cowan squelled like stuck pigs-wanted all these assurances to protect their investment-nothing to do with the safeguards for SFC-Oh no. So,SISU took over Coventry-their fans are not making noises-why should they?Near the top of our league-6 points out of 6-we have 0-6-QED? Also Leicester City-third I think-unbeaten no goals against-Nigel good manager or not? Wake up you peaople-we are going down the tubes. Come on Lowe luvvies-come and have a pop and justify your positions. PS I am a life long supporter of Saints and been to many matches before you were born-and I hate what is happening to MY club-

now look at it logically and ask yourselves where the next (er, I mean FIRST) points are going to come from?
This club has just fallen apart in four days with this news, rasiak and saga going on loan - great for morale, eh? And no money in the kity, either.
Expect nothing bbut relegation now.

I cannot believe that f***ing lowe is doing this to our club. Andrew Davies is one of the most important players at this club, if he goes, sevenson gets injured we are going to be left right in the s**t. Thomas is useless and chris Perry is about 3 inches tall!
And if the figures quoted are correct £1.5m the Rupert Lowe is more of a F***ing w****er than I thought!
Enough is enough, you have already ruined this club once Mr Lowe, Bugger off.

What about Andrew Davies being transferred. Have you decided whether it is a good or a bad move? Don't sit on the fence! Let us know what you think.
If £1.5m is actually the figure to be accepted, do you think that Stoke are paying to much? Should the price be reduced? How much would you accept for him?
With the club, of which you are its No1 Fan (although others may disagree with that claim) having only played two matches in the Championship League, and are still in that league, because no team gets relegated of promoted after just two games, perhaps you would explain to us all, exactly how Mr Rupert has ruined the club already.

[/quote] Simply Red - although your post was witty, I am inclined to support certain views albeit less directly than 'Saints Number 1 Fan'.
The simple fact is that Southampton FC are in the business of selling football games. We need to win games in order to stay in this division or better still get promoted; by doing so will result in the retention or betterment of certain league and TV revenue plus an average gate of probably around 17,000 this season. If however we get relegated these revenue streams will dry and disappear.
So - to recap:
success = safety/promotion
failure = relegation/probably bankruptcy
Now, a few seasons ago when Svennsson was first out long term injured and Claus was aging - Rupert sold the only cover we had in Fitz Hall for £1.5m.... then, Rupert waited a few games and realised that we only had one central defender and then spent 1m on Darren Powell.... That season cost us dearly, very dearly... a small/short term profit in exchange for football game wins.....
I think Jan has us playing attractive football but as it stands, IF he manages to keep us up it will be with about 8 players left in his team of which 1 has been cured by Jesus and the others are all still just stopping breast feeding.
We simply cannot sell Davies... by all means let Skacel, Euell go...

It's a real shame but at the end of the day the clubs financial survival is the upmost priority and if our best players have to be sold to make ends meet, then so be it. Leeds have had to go back to square one and sadly so have we, league survival is the teams responsibility. I'll never subscribe to the Rupert Lowe fan club but the bloke is a business man and he'll do absolutely everything possible to stop this club and his money going up the swanie.

Although I don't want to see Davies go, I fail to see what Lowe could have done about it. It's standard practice nowadays to have a get out clause inserted in your contract if a premier league club come in for you, if Lowe had been here when AD signed that clause would still have been put in so I'm not blaming anyone, who can blame Davies for wanting PL football, I just question his ambition in going to Stoke, always supposing Stoke really are daft enough to sign an injured player!

Can you name any club that has shown the slightest interest in buying either of them?
NO! NEITHER CAN I.

Rupert's plan is that if he sells all the players listed above he can pocket all the match day money as he is paying the boys paper boy delivery money.

The Board as they say are between a rock and a hard place. They have to cut a wage bill from over £13m down to about £6m. They are hampered by the contracts that they have inherited from the previous board.
They have Skacel, who is currently surplus to requirements and rumoured to be on £10k a week, that’s over half a million. He is refusing to leave and join Ipswich as he will earn less. If we cannot sell him and we are not going to use him, we should rent him out even if it means not covering his salary (if that is allowed)
Jason Euell is even worse, also rumoured to be on £10k a week, it seems no one wants him.
The consideration to sell Andrew Davies may not be to cut the wage bill so much as to generate the £1m we need to pay the salaries of Skacel & Euell.
It is easy, as I have done above, to say what should be done, but the board have to deal with what it is possible to do. Sometimes they will have to go with the best of several bad options. I just thank god that as a supporter, I have been able to delegate the responsibility for taking those decisions to them.
On a different subject, may I take the opportunity to wish Graham Hiley all the best in his future job with the Premier League Web Site. I am sure Graham will long to be reporting on SAINTS in his new job one day soon.

Split thoughts on this one, when he was signed it was on a short contract, end of this season he would have been in his last year. Some questions have to be asked about the contract he was given, why so sort term, should have been at least 4 years. Over a barrel really, lost a real prospect too cheap. The kids need to grow up very quickly, yesterday, after 25mins, we were out thought, out fought, outclassed and out of the game.....don't like to say it but poor Lloyd James looks so weak at full back, his career could be ruined if he doesn't go back to midfield.....lots of hope but another nail biter of a season.

Do you mean 45 minutes? We played them off the park for the whole of the first half. Even at 2-1 down we were never out of the game, the better team won but we weren't out of the game.

Or the making of him, if he doesn't learn and improve then he won't make a top class pro at any level.

Or get Franny Benali to take them out in training and get the insurance to pay them off?
Joking aside, if what you suggest is correct and they are selling AD to pay the wages of RS and JE, then it is still bad business.

Amazing that the first few posters (within and hour of the final whistle) were full of gloom and doom, and after a while people start to describe the game with positive comments.
Just got round to looking at some write ups in the Sunday papers. They seem to suggest we were far from outclassed. The Mail suggesting we were beaten by a scuffed shot and scrappy goal mouth scramble.
Not sure I totally agree with that, but not a 'gulf in class' between the teams either.

An embarrasing retraction on the official site from the manager about the Davies situation.
In other words, this morning Rupert Lowe saw what Poortvliet said after the game, rang him up to tell him what he should have said and they've spun it on the official site to make it out that Davies is the man in the wrong.
Lowe is such a scumbag, he can't even back the manager he appointed. He's already treating Poortvliet like he treats us supporters... with utter contempt.

I think not wanting Andrew Davies to go is the first thing many Saints fans have actually been able to agree on for a long time. We can all agree this is not good. getting rid of the likes of Powell, Idiakez is one thing. Starting to think we should have kept hold of Jesus & Vignal as we're short on proper full backs. The team's looking out balanced as far as youth & experience goes. We need to bring in a couple of experienced full backs in my opinion. I think we should keep Skacel, as we could do with his experience in midfield. Loaning Rasiak out to Watford is dumb, we need his goals & could have done with him on saturday, as we had no other attacking options.

How disappointing is this story?!! Having watched the woeful defending for Birmingham's two goals yesterday, we should be concentrating on doing everything to keep a player of Davies' standard and spirit. Of course it's fantastic to see Svensson back but to rely too heavily on him would be terribly foolish – we need another quality central defender as well, no disrespect meant to Perry by the way either. Yes it's £1.5 million – but we [italic]cannot[/italic] get into another 'scrapping to avoid relegation' situation – which we will if we sell the best of our players in areas where we [italic]have[/italic] to keep them!

This is my letter to the echo as I have had enough of those running the club. Constant bad decision making but the question we never get answered is where is all the transfer income gone? There must have been £65m since the club started selling like a mad man. I cant see anyhting but a relegation battle as the squad just cant compete against what are clearly NOT better teams.
Hi Daily Echo,
Just when Saints were getting together a squad that could survive another relegation battle and take a possible huge leap to a 12th place finish we get a repeat of previous seasons bad decision making. How can the club and our esteemed chairman make a decision to sell a player that single-handedly saved Saints losing many of the games he played in. A player that punched his weight well above the very poor outfit of pre Nigel Pearson and had the respect and praise of the fans for his performance on the pitch.
The clubs obsession with cost has turned Saints into a very poor side unable to compete during the full 90 minutes at a level to get above the relegation places. Players that have performed well get sold, players that are not good enough are kept and or sold, players that are a future talent are sold and any player that can be sold is sold. That's the philosophy of Southampton FC, but there is more combine this with the madness of changing managers each season makes the crafting of Saints Coffin nicely polished and with the nails banged in place the burial to Division one can start this season.
I fully expect Andrew Surman David McGoldrick to be sold before the transfer date and failing that in the January window and Lee Holmes looks a decent player so he can bring in some money too. The manager has no idea what sort of club he has into, a club that sells anything that can have a price, and they wont even keep you informed. Jan will open the door one day to find sold signs on players cloths hooks in the changing room, and to his horror another manager taking training and to my horror Hoddle! We are told `The squad will need two months to get used to the system` does that mean 9 games with out any points which is 27 points lost? The clubs PR language is a mystery to the fans and one of the worst I have ever encountered, we now have some excuses for the Andrew Davies sale but don't for one minute think we have taken it at its face value.
The Cardiff and Birmingham games show quite clearly that the players are playing real football now but not for the entire game as the experience and strength is not there, by all means sell players who are not performing and just using the club but to sell players that will be needed each week or to fill in when short confirms those who run the club are not watching the games and have already made their mind up to relegate the club for their own reasons.
Saints fans are fed up with the erosion of what was a very competitive club able to beat the best with a small budget and a good mix of young and experienced players but last season we barely gave yourself justice to be in the Championship and now this week the relegation machine is in full speed ahead after yet another cost-based decision from the club. I for one do not believe a word said about the finances of the club as over the years money has poured in and those who have profited must now give it back to save Saints from a second RELEGATION otherwise another 5,000-6,000 fans will make the decision not to turn up to the opening game and stay away. It can not be co-incidence that fans have not returned to SMS while the clubs cost-based decisions, regular change of managers and baffling vision reoccur season after season.
The clubs new motto of `The reserves will be training with the first team` is an obvious statement as there is not much left of the first team as the reserves become the first team! They say you will never win anything with youngsters, well I say you will never win anyhting with a squad of just 11 to choose from!

Yes, it did go wrong in the second half and yes we have a lot to learn ans a lot to do - just to survive.
It will only happen if the team are fully and totally supported.
We will have some victories soon and then it will go either way probably depending on how much the fans get behind the Team.
Strange decisions to sell our better players do not help and God only knows if Andrew Davies has been sold to balance the books or maybe he has decided that he only wants to play in the Premiership - probably one of those two options.
Please note I DO NOT KNOW THE REASON and nor does anyone else out there apart from maybe a few people close to the player.
So please, please keep supporting the Team which has lost 2 games BUT is showing signs that it has something in it.
I defy anyone to say that the present team in not miles better than the Team that played last season.

Spoken like someone who actually saw this side play.
I had decided not to comment on yesterday's performance. I listened to every ball (sadly on thye radio) and what impressed memmost was the difference in attitude between this season and last.
Yes, it did go wrong in the second half and yes we have a lot to learn ans a lot to do - just to survive.
It will only happen if the team are fully and totally supported.

I would chalange anyone to find a better demolition firm than the two we have at our beloved club. How they can claim they have the best intrest of the club foremost in thier minds, is beyond me. I dont claim to be as clever as lowe and wilde, but i would have thought selling the players that could actully move this club forward was the very last thing we should be doing. FITZ HALL jumps out like a jack in the box, we sold him to make a profit then strugled all season to field a decent centre half.If we cant play KILLER every game who are we going to slot in THOMAS?, to many miskicks in front of goal he's not the answer.WOTTON thirty odd midfield player, why buy a midfielder then play him centre half?. I have been to the pre season games and you can not fault the younger players for their commitment, effort or skill but they need the help from the more seasoned players like DAVIS. I am a season ticket holder and have been for many years ,and i can only say when we became a P.L.C. with S.L.H. all our troubles began ,and will stay with us as long as we stay a P.L.C. All the talk in the past about investment coming into the club has worn rather thin on the ground to me. I only notice the empty seats that are growing each season and will continue to do so until we have a team that can stay in the other half of the league, and not IN the half that we have had to bear in the last few seasons. At the start of this season i thought we would blend the younger players with the older ones and finish mid table ready to have a real good go next season for promotion, but i cant see it now if we keep selling our best players. i will support the manager and his team but not LOWE AND WILDE.

But the fans didn't want that either. Fickle bunch - ain't we?
In general terms, I'm still more optimistic than I was at the beginning of last season. We are beginning to balance the books, even if it means selling Davies, who looks like he may have just about enough skill to turn into a journeyman Championship player. At the the same time we can certainly get rid of Surman if the reports are true that we are being offered £2m+. He is completely over-rated by Saints fans, and if others over-rate him enough to offer that sort of cash let's take it.
Great first half. More composure from some of our young player may have meant we went in two or three up, but the people who really let us down by missing soft chances and going missing for the goals against were the more experienced John, Killer, and Surman.
Where we could have done with an older head was after the first Birmingham goal. More experienced leadership would have kept up the heads of the rest of the team.
Their has been some criticism of lack of fitness - I presume from people who weren't at the match. Pretty much all the players were first to the tackle, looking for the second ball, running off the ball - and even John was jogging back from offside positions.
So - all in all, disappointing to have no points rather than two or four, but nothing to be pessimistic about. After Crystal Palace last season it was difficult to see where we would get any points. After Birmingham this season I think we can all see plenty of points coming our way.

[/quote] For your information True Blue I know more about the credit crunch than you realise - I work in the financial services industry and am very familiar with the Global Economy - the credit crunch actually started in the United States (of course, it seems to have hit very close to home for Pompey). In case you hadn't noticed, Saints have been selling their better players since Rupert Lowe took control of the club, during strong economic cycles and weak ones. I love my team but despise the leadership at the Club.
I see you are critical of a Saints fan living in Madeira. What the hell does that have to do with anything? I understand that you lot down the road can't pick up and move your caravans too easily, but that's your problem. In my years over here I have seen a several Saints fans, yet not a single Pompey fan. I have flown back on 2 occaisions for the weekend just to see Saints play - in the Cup Final, when I didn't have a ticket ( I was simply willing to take a chance I'd get one the day of the game) and for the relegation game against Man Utd. Please don't question loyalties and committment of those that have moved away for whatever reason. Besides, I could only have 1 wife in England (unless I moved to Portsmouth where I could have married my 3 sisters). I am reminded of Portsmouth once in a while though, when the Great Salt Lake churns over it stinks and blows in "Lake Stink", much like Porstmouth City Center!!!
Enjoy the new season in the Prem - it got off to a great start today, and expect twitchy to walk if he can't take bungs anymore cos his funds have dried up. I always used to look for Pompeys score right after ours when you were in the lower divisions, hoping you would also see some success, but the pure hatred that is directed from you lot has soured all that. It's a shame, because the South Coast would be far better off with both teams in the top flight.

Then hired a car to get to Cardiff just to be near the action-in a pub-whatever-anyway we got tickets from the touts just before kick off-cost us 300 notes EACH-but we all agreed best money we had ever spent-the fans were something else.
Sorry True Blue-think I have got carried away-by the way you will not be allowed to enter Madeira-you have to pass an IQ Visa test-which you will fail!PS
I listen to every Saints game via Radio Hampshire-shame that Will Cope is such a ---

Thank god you are not knocking the team. I would hate to read your post if you were. Yes, being a prudent businessman, Mr Gaydamak has closed his wallet at Fratton Park, only spending what he can afford, not what he would like to spend.
Yes, I have noticed the Rupert Lowe has been selling the 'better players' since he took control, but I also note that over the past decade various Chairmen have sold many players, and received many millions, but seem to have very little to show for it.
Yes, there is a stadium, but that was built on a brown field site, which was cheaper to buy than the building site that was sold (the Dell) to partially fund it. With the increased capacity, function facilities, corporate boxes etc etc the club should have been raking in money hand over fist.
I was critical of a fan living in Madeira, because it seems to me that these 'absentee fans' have all the bright ideas of what should be done, who should do it and who should pay for it, but are not around to dip their hands in their pockets. At no time did he say that he made regular trips from there to visit his beloved team, and I can understand that, but feel that those that do support the club financially are the ones that are most entitled to criticise.
Your childish comments regarding wives is taken onboard, and your post sunk to the level that I could only expect from a Denzil clone.
Whilst at the Denzil level, I am surprised that 'Lake Stink' reminds you or Portsmouth, because the aroma emitted from the old Pirelli General Works, near the old swimming baths in Southampton, were something that could only be endured by residents of such a place. When you add to that the delightful fragrance emitted for Fawley, with its associated plants processing the bye-products, I can only imagine that you opted for Lake Stink, either as a preference, or to make you feel at home.
As I have said on a number of occasions, Hate is an emotion, and I just cannot get emotional about Southampton.
Yes, Pompey's season did get off to a great start. Chelsea played far better than Man U did the previous Sunday, when we drew 0-0 with them at Wembley, and I am certain that if Chelsea maintain that style throughout the season, they will walk the Championship. Despite that result, Pompey fans are not all 'doom and gloom' talking of relegation, boycotting Fratton Park, sacking the manager etc etc as some fans are doing after losing their two opening games.
I think that, come Christmas, Pompey fans will have forgotten the Chelsea result, and will be in the top half of the table.
I agree with your last sentence, but it will not happen until SFC have their finances in order. While some say that Football is just a game - well, yes it is - at parks level. At SFC level it is a business, and a business, trading at a loss, has to cut its costs, sell some of its assets, and try to rebuild. That is what is happening at present, in the hope that, at some time in the future, there will be another Premier League club in Hampshire.

I am amused that you are calling my comments childish. May I remind you of your opening sentence "Salt Lake City! Is that the center for Mormoms or Morons". They don't come much more pathetic and childish than that True Blue. You have obviously never been here and are unqualified to comment. Some of the best beer I have tasted throughout the World is brewed right here, and no, it's not root beer!
I am also scratching my head at your comments directed towards the fan in Madeira. You have mentioned he has no right to comment because he no longer lives in the Southampton area - yet you say you lived in the United States in the past, which must, in your mind, disqualify you also from being a "true" supporter, or were you once, then not, but are again? The sign of a true supporter is one that continues to support their team however they can if they leave the area. You obviously haven't read his last comment.I personally had a tremendous opportunity here and have never been happier. I take time off work to watch / listen to mid-week games. I was a season ticket holder myself, went to both Cup Finals, Charity Shield, League Cup Final etc. I am a current shareholder in the Club, and get up a 5AM to either watch or listen to lunch time games.
The Global Economy is something we watch very closely, and with the amount of information available these days, your antiquated idea that news only comes from Washington regarding Wall Street speaks for itself.
Finally, I was unaware the credit crunch was affecting gun runners, but I guess the terrorists of the world must not be buying either. I'll notify the Wall Street Journal immediately. As we say over here "Have a nice day"
