Teen motorcyclist dies in crash

A young motorcyclist has died in a crash on a Hampshire road.

Teenager Nicholas Hobbs died when his Suzuki bike collided with a car in Warsash last night.

The 19-year-old had been riding his blue bike near the Silverfern pub in Warsash Road when it was involved in an accident with a VW Golf.

Nicholas, from Warsash, was taken to Southampton General Hospital but died there later.

Police said the crash happened at about 9.45pm and closed the road for five hours.

The black VW was carrying five people and was being driven by a 21-year-old from Fareham.

He has been arrested and question by police over causing death by dangerous driving.

His 28-year-old front seat passenger, from Titchfield, suffered minor head injuries and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

Very sad must be the parents worst nightmare every time a teenager goes out on a motorbike.
Im very sad for the family but sadly this same head line will be up again telling us of another teenager dying as the result of a accident.

Very Sad, My thoughts go out to Family and Friends. Hope that Motorcycles are ringed out by this accident, people are killed in Cars and on bicycles as well. Not an unsual road but a lot of roads and carparks ajoin it in a short distance - maybe it is time for a re-think of the controls on it.

Its been a bad week or so for fatals this week, with all the 2 wheeled victims being the loosing parties, and mostly all innocent side in it.

Hopefully be better next week, we're running out of operation names for the investigations !

Bikes are like death traps?...agreed, but at the same time, so insensitive...and in this case, is it really going to be the kid at fault? not the 5 lads in a VW golf pulling out froma pub on a saturday night?...sorry to want to argue over this, but Nick would not have been so stupid to be weaving on the wrong side of the road! RIP nick...and my sympathies for his family & friends x

We didn't know the young lad concerned but live locally and have seen the moving roadside tribute. This is a tragedy for the family and friends. I don't know the details of this accident but I do have a file full of letters I have written to the MP and local council about the problem of dangerous driving in Warsash. What will it take for something to be done about making the roads safer in this community which is plagued by speeding drivers?

Nick was the coolest guy in school and not because he was flash but because he was the nicest guy in school. I don't know anyone who would ever have a bad word against Nick. This is such a tradgey and I'm heartbroken it had to ever happen to anyone from our year, let alone Nick. I only wish I'd kept in contact more after school... i guess you don't realise how quickly life will take something away.
Heartfelt sympathies to the family, he will always be the sweetest guy any of us knew.
We will all miss you Nick xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

P.s Bikes aren't deathtraps for sensible people, like Nick, if they're around drivers who are fully aware of the motorbikes around. It only takes a missed blind spot check at a roundabout or forgetting to check the right again before pulling out. Ok there are some idiots out there on bikes, i saw some yesterday, but the main reasons for motorcycle deaths is their vunerability and drivers forgetting that... There are as many car accidents as bike accidents, if not more, the difference is... bikes dont get a box around them to take the hit. Instead they get the freedom of the wind in their face and being able to see whats around... so yea I know why people ride bikes.

I passed the group on the bikes going in the opposite direction moments before this awful thing happened, and no,they were'nt riding dangerously.
So remember, before anyone jumps to any conclusions, that a young life has been lost and a family are in mourning for a life lost and future that will never be.

Sincere condolences to the family.
I can't believe how some people are talking about bikes and who is to blame etc. Let the police decide, this is not the right forum for this type of dicussion and is disrespectful to those in mourning.

Unfortunately brings back too many memories. I grew up in South Africa and lost many friends in road accidents. The fact that I am still around at 39 is more a miracle than anything else having been in two myself. This happened at the end of my road and I see the kids there every day mourning Nick. All I can say to all of you is remember him in the spirit he lived. Reading these tributes he must have been an amazing guy. You were lucky to have known him. Time will ease the pain and never forget him. My thoughts are with his parents, because as a dad myself today I cannot even imagine the pain. Well done to all you kids who are out there showing you care, those who criticize you were never really young.

After just chatting to Nick recently and rememebering what a great guy he was it seems unreal that such a thing could happen to him.
I hope if the driver is found to have caused death by dangerous driving he sees what he has done. His mistake cannot be undone.
All my love to Nicks family, want them to know that although some of us didn't know him too well, everyone knew that he was a decent guy who cared about everyone. He would talk to anyone and easily be able to make them laugh. You should be proud.
